Palo is a free app for giving away spare food to the people who live near you. That is the whole idea.
What Palo is
Someone cooks too much, or has more lemons than they can use. They post it. A neighbour nearby asks for it. They agree a time, and it changes hands at the front gate.
It is free to use, everything on it is given away, and it works over a short distance — roughly 5 km — because sharing only makes sense with people who are genuinely close by.
Good food, used
Food that would otherwise sit in a fridge gets eaten instead.
People who live near you
The same faces you already pass on the footpath.
Given, not traded
Everything on Palo is free. There is no money in it, by design.
Why we built it
Two ordinary things happen on the same street every day. Good food goes unused, and people who live a few doors apart never quite meet.
Palo is a small attempt at both, and we would rather be honest about the size of it. We are not claiming to fix anything. We are trying to make one specific thing — offering something to a neighbour — easy enough that people actually do it.
What Palo is not
- Not a marketplace. Everything on Palo is given away, and no money changes hands.
- Not a food service. Palo never handles, stores or checks anything. Food passes directly between neighbours.
- We don’t vouch for anyone. Collectors complete a one-off identity check; givers do not. Either way a check is not a character reference. Read the safety page before you arrange to meet someone.
Where we are up to
Coming soon to selected Brisbane suburbs. We are starting deliberately small, because an app like this is only useful if there is someone actually nearby.
