Account deletion

Delete your Palo account

Palo is operated by Dharma Corporation Pty Ltd. You can delete your account and the information associated with it at any time — from inside the app, or by emailing us. You do not need the app installed to make the request.

From inside the app

  1. Open Palo and go to Help & Support.
  2. Choose Account & data.
  3. Select the option to delete your account, and confirm.

By email, if you can’t use the app

If you have removed Palo, can’t sign in, or would rather not use the app, email us and we will action the request.

Email help@palo.life

Send it from the email address on your Palo account, and say that you want the account deleted. If you cannot email from that address, tell us the address you signed up with so we can identify the account.

What is deleted

Deleting your account is permanent. Your personal information is anonymised as soon as you confirm, and nothing can be restored afterwards — not by you, and not by us.

  • Your profile — display name, photo, email address, phone number, age band and street name. Your login stops working.
  • Your listings. If someone had already arranged to collect from you, that listing is removed and the other person is told.
  • Your photos, removed from storage.
  • Your messages, along with the conversations they belong to.
  • Ratings you received.

What is kept, and why

A few things are not removed, because they belong to someone else’s record or exist to keep people safe. Where they are kept, you are no longer identifiable in them.

  • Exchanges you completed stay in the other person’s history, shown as “a neighbour”. They are part of that person’s record, not only yours.
  • Ratings you gave stay on the people you gave them to, also shown as “a neighbour”. Removing them would change someone else’s rating months later, through nothing they did.
  • Reports. If you have reported someone, or been reported, the report and the messages attached to it are kept as safety evidence, with your identifiers reduced to an internal reference.

Records that remain after anonymisation are permanently purged 30 days later, apart from anything that has to be kept as safety or moderation evidence.

What the Privacy Policy says

The Privacy Policy is the governing document. Clause 14 says:

14.2. Deleting your account does not necessarily mean every record will immediately be deleted.

14.3. We may retain information where reasonably necessary for safety, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, legal claims or compliance with law.

Clause 12 covers how long information is kept more generally, and clause 9 covers information preserved after a reported safety incident.
